CBCP: Visita Iglesia Should Not Be A 'mere barkada' Outing

MANILA, Philippines - An official of the Catholic Church has appealed
to the faithful particularly to the Filipino youth not to reduce the
Visita Iglesia (church visit) tradition to a mere “barkada” event or
outing.Father Genaro Diwa, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Liturgy (CBCP-ECL), said while it is good that the practice of visiting seven or 14 churches during Holy Thursday brings people together, it is also saddening that sometimes the activity becomes some sort of an excursion only for some.
“It is reduced to a mere barkada event or excursion or what. I hope we become conscious of this,” he said in an interview..... MORE
