Impeachment court cites lawyer for contempt over Santiago slur

A member of the prosecution panel was cited for contempt by the Impeachment Court yesterday for protesting what he felt was Senator-Judge Miriam Defensor Santiago’s use of foul language while lecturing the prosecution panel over their decision to rest its case against Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Lawyer Vitaliano Aguirre II, a private prosecutor, told the court that he could not stand the words of Santiago. He covered his ears when Santiago was ranting about the sudden decision of the prosecutors to stop presenting witnesses and evidence and to drop five of the eight articles of impeachment.
