"Makati City has continually planned and implemented disaster resiliency programs and activities for the safety of its people and infrastructures. It was named as one of “East Asia’s Climate Resilient Cities” by the World Bank in 2008 for its environmental initiatives that address air, water and land pollution that degrade the environment. It was also named as “Role Model City” by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction on May 5, 2011 on UNISDRs campaign on making the cities resilient."
