QC gov’t orders families living along West Valley Fault Line to evacuate
By Arlie O. Calalo 05/06/2011Anticipating real danger in case of an earthquake, the Quezon City government has ordered the immediate relocation of at least 42 families whose houses were built in an area transecting the West Valley Fault Line.
Interviewed by Tribune, Mayor Herbert “Bistek” Bautista said he already directed the city’s disaster risk management council to start sending notices to the affected families, specifically those living on Gen. Del Pilar Street, Barangay Bagong Silangan.
He added the concerned families were immediately advised to voluntarily vacate the area which is more vulnerable to ground rupture and potential landslides during an earthquake generated by the fault system.
