Street 'Senakulo' stays alive in Mandaluyong

MANILA, Philippines — After ten years of playing Jesus Christ in the “Senakulo sa Lansangan” (Senakulo on the Street), 27-year-old JR Galvez shows no signs of quitting the role, vowing to continue what he started with the group “Dulaang Matiaga.”

Since his participation in 1998, when he was a high school student, he has played numerous roles in the annual senakulo.

Unlike other senakulo characters who inherited the acting tradition from their parents or community elders, it was Galvez himself who sought a part in the production..... MORE
