Proposed budget cuts for AFP opposed

The funding problems in the Armed Forces of the Philippines is not going to be solved by cutting its budget, members of the House minority bloc said yesterday.

According to House deputy minority leader Danilo Suarez said the end result of budget cuts would adversely affect the operations of the military particularly the lowly soldier.

“Deductions should be a no-no,” Suarez said yesterday during the minority bloc’s weekly press briefing.

Suarez was reacting to a move by the Department of Budget and Management to cut the personnel funding of the armed forces by 20 percent following allegations of massive funds misuse..... MORE
