Anyone who reaches the pinnacle of power, especially in the Philippines, is subject to close scrutiny. Everything one says, does and even thinks of doing gets dissected, criticized and very often given different interpretations.
This was the case with Marcos, Cory, Ramos, Erap, Gloria. This is the case with Noynoy, whose luck of the draw is that he gets to reap a harvest of bad fruits planted with seeds of corruption, negligence and apathy.
Although his popularity at the polls has not waned much — even through dismaying events such as the lack of training, efficiency and values of the police force, as well as the rising cost of living amid natural disasters that have already claimed lives throughout the country — President Noy would do well to tread carefully lest he end up with muck on his face like his predecessor Gloria.
The congresswoman of Pampanga must be laughing her way to the bank now that Noynoy is getting so much flak for his injudicious purchase of a Porsche, albeit a pre-owned one. Some people have defended the president by saying he has a right, just like anyone else, to enjoy his own money, which he did not lie and cheat for or steal from the country’s coffers. They say he even wisely sold his BMW in order to buy the Porsche, and besides, what bachelor does not love his cars and gadgets?.... MORE
