Joint congressional oversight committee tells Comelec:

Destroy 2M ARMM ballots

The nearly 2 million ballots which have already been printed for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) should be destroyed.

This was the recommendation of some members of the Joint congressional oversight committee (Jcoc) on automated elections after it was reported that the 1.7 million ballots for ARMM do not bear the security markings of the National Printing Office (NPO) which is mandated under the Omnibus Election Code.

“Although the NPO marking does not add security to the ballots... But if there is time, it is a nice symbolic gesture of burning them,” said Rep. Teodoro Locsin who is known to plug for automated polls and Smartmatic.
But Comelec Chairman Jose Melo said the proposed burning of the ARMM ballots would not be a good idea since it would cause some delays.

“The proposal is drastic, to say the least. The truth is, we believe that it may delay the whole process because the whole ARMM (ballots) will have to be reprinted. We may run out of time, paper, ink,” revealed Melo.
The Comelec earlier said there is no need to put the NPO ultra-violet ink in the ARMM ballots because it is not as important as the security markings of the Comelec.... MORE

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – Former President Joseph Estrada, standard-bearer of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP), remains confident that the people of Ilocos Norte would still support his candidacy despite the political affiliation of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos with the Nacionalista Party (NP) of Sen. Manuel Villar Jr.

Estrada, in an interview upon arrival at the Laoag Interna-tional Airport here, yesterday said Ilocanos would vote for him as they did in the 1998 presi-dential elections when he got a solid vote from the so-called Solid North.
According to him, the Ilocanos know of his loyalty to the late President Ferdinand Marcos.

Estrada recalled that he was one of those who visited the late strongman who was in exile in Honolulu, Hawaii against the advice of his fellow senators.

He said Ilocanos would remember that he was a good friend to the Marcoses.... MORE

A report by the Technical Working Group (TWG) of the Commission on Elections
(Comelec) that was acquired by the Tribune brought out two disturbing facts: That a cheating syndicate is still very much active within the poll body and that the ballots for the May 10 elections are not fool-proof.

What these two add up to is that massive fraud is rearing its ugly head again, automation or not, come voting day.

The automated system, if it works, will severely cut down the post election window for the Garcis and the Bedols of Comelec since the results are transmitted in a flash. The premise here, however, is that the Smartmatic-TIM consortium will live up to its commitments or promises under the P7.2-billion automation contract.... MORE

Obviously, the Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer, Noynoy Aquino, does not know what he is talking about when it comes to slaying the evil he calls corruption.

In allaying fears that politicians surrounding him will lord it over his government--assuming he wins--and commit graft and corruption, he was quoted in a newspaper as saying that, apart from his setting a good example, increasing the salaries and benefits of public officials will lessen graft and corruption in government.

Let's be realistic. You want good people and talent and for them to have integrity, raise the bar before they are tempted,” he said.... MORE
