Why is the military even talking about stepping into the picture should there occur in May, a failure of elections, no proclamation, or a postponement of elections?

From all indications, it appears that the Armed Forces of the Philippines — or at least officers in the AFP — has some kind of a plan to take over government should these scenarios come to fruition.

It won’t be admitted publicly by opposing camps, but the issue of who should appoint the next chief justice is all about politics, not only being played by those opposing the move for Gloria Arroyo to name Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno, but also within, and among the SC justices.

After nine years, former President Joseph Estrada returned to Malacañang to attend the Security Council Meeting at the Heroes Hall of Malacañang yesterday upon invitation of President Arroyo who welcomed him and thanked him for accepting her invitation.

Following the topics stated in the invitation, the meeting discussed “the national security situation, measures to address private armed groups and loose firearms, and preparations for national elections.”
