RP seeks downgrading of terror warnings
By Michaela P. del Callar and Aytch S. de la Cruz 11/05/2010Malacañang is seriously considering the idea of asking the United States and other allies to withdraw the travel advisories they have imposed on the Philippines, citing inconsistencies in the reports that reached them with respect to concerns on possible terror attacks.
Also, Manila will ask foreign governments to consult with Filipino officials first before issuing such damaging advisories, especially if they don’t seem to have a solid basis.
A Foreign Affairs official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, stressed that guidelines for the issuance of travel advisories are currently being drafted and will soon be circulated to foreign embassies.
Manila cannot compel embassies to adhere to such protocol nor are they bound to implement it because they are not part of the Philippine government.... MORE
