Abu leader who kidnapped Americans gunned down

Government  security forces yesterday killed an elusive sub-leader of the terrorist  Abu Sayyaf Group involved in the kidnap of three Americans nine years  ago which led to the death of two of them, a ranking military official  said.
Abdukarim Sali, alias Benjamin Sali, was  killed by soldiers and police in the southern island of Basilan before  dawn, Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) chief Lt. Gen. Ben Dolorfino  said.
He added the firefight lasted for about 10  minutes after which the Abu Sayyaf bandits fled to different directions,  leaving behind Sali’s body.
The troops are scouring the remote areas of Lantawan town in pursuit of the fleeing bandits, Dolorfino said.
“He was involved in the Dos Palmas kidnapping of the Americans and the Filipinos,” he added.
