Always, the Hacienda Luisita workers get shortchanged by dint of the circumstance of having an Aquino in Malacañang.

Prior to 1986, the Hacienda Luisita workers already won their land battle in the court of first instance, when the judge ruled that the hacienda must be parceled out to the workers.

Tough luck for the farmers, as an Aquino, Cory, was installed in Malacañang through the 1986 People Power Revolt.

One of the first things Cory did, upon her assumption to power, was to declare all farm lands under land reform, but exempted Hacienda Luisita from that land reform.

Then all too suddenly, the then solicitor-general, Frank Chavez, performed not as a government lawyer for the people, but as the lawyer for Cory Aquino.... MORE
