Obama okays new funds for Pinoy war veterans

08/02/2010 US President Barack Obama has signed into law the provision of additional funding for Filipino World War II veterans compensation program. Signed last July 29, House Resolution 4899, or the “Supplemental Appro-priations Act 2010,” provides that $67 million or roughly P3.1 billion may be used for the Filipino Veterans Equity Compensation Program. The overwhelming majority of veterans’ claims have been decided and continue to be paid with the $198 million in original funding.  The US Embassy in Manila said the supplement will ensure speedy compensation to all eligible Filipino veterans, including those whose denied claims are successfully appealed.....
