Miriam Defensor Santiago yesterday welcomed the appointment of Maria Lourdes Sereno as new justice of the Supreme Court even as she said President Aquino’s first appointee to the high tribunal will likely be the first female chief justice in the future. “She is brilliant. It is fortuitous that she was appointed very young. She will earn the necessary seniority and eventually become the first female chief justice of the Philippine Supreme Court,” Santiago, in a statement, added.
