No LP monopoly on key House panels — Belmonte
By Gerry Baldo 07/12/2010 Key positions in the House of Representatives will not only be held by members of the Liberal Party but also by members of its coalition partners that include the Lakas-Kampi-CMD, the Nationalist People’s Coalition, the Nacionalista Party and the smaller parties like the PDP-Laban and the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino. According to Quezon City Rep. Feliciano Belmonte, LP’s bet for the speakership race, he is now in the process of talking to possible candidates for the chairmanships of at least 57 House committees. “We talk to the prospective chairpersons on who will be more qualified to lead this or that committee. We will take into consideration factors like experience and seniority,” Belmonte said. He, however, stressed that members of the LP will be holding strategic posts and major committees. “Like in any organization in the past, the administration has a say on how the committees are filled up. A committee would want to have access to people in the administration. That is a normal course,” Belmonte stressed.
