Too late the (church) hero EDITORIAL Click to enlarge 02/20/2010 It comes much too late, this call from Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales for Gloria Arroyo to display a sense of delicadeza, on the matter of her, along with her allies, seeking the speakership when the new Congress opens. Rosales said hat instead of being Speaker, Gloria “should give others a chance to serve the country,” advising her further that she and her allies should think twice in the move of a president stepping down to become a Speaker, since none of the country’s past presidents have done what she is doing. Not that we care to see Gloria Arroyo installed in the Speaker’s seat in the House of Representatives, but frankly, if Rosales’ political sentiment is one of giving others “a chance to serve the country,” then why did he, his bishops and the clerics, not advise her of the same thing when she ran for the presidency in 2004, and worse, continued to support her and her regime despite the evidence of the massive electoral fraud to ensure her victory?...
