Rebels scorned EDITORIAL Click to enlarge 02/19/2010 The Arroyo administration can only blame itself for peace negotiations with Muslim rebels that went bust under its nine-year rule because of its patent transactional politics that is premised on buying allegiance. The demand of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) for Gloria to surrender to it a substate as a condition for unprincipled peace was obviously a demand that she had earlier committed to the group. Two years ago, in August, Gloria’s subalterns were ready to sign a document called the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MoA-AD) in Kuala Lumpur and if not for a Supreme Court decision to stop it, a so-called Bangsamoro Juridical Entity (BJE) would have been established with all the characteristics of a separate and independent Islamic state....
