Wise men or kings? TABLETS OF STONE Larry Faraon, OP 01/04/2010 The Catholic feast of the Epiphany or manifestation of Christ to the pagan world begun in the Eastern Church around the Third Century. This is to commemorate the “appearance” of Jesus Christ to the gentiles as the light of the world. But there was a bit of confusion at the beginning as to whether these men who visited Jesus guided by the star of the Messiah were actually kings or astrologers from the east considered the wise men of that era. In the Eastern Church it was clearly the biblical pattern of wise men or interpreter of the constellations since the guidance of a star was prominently ascribed to the event in a cultural era where kings and subjects look up to the constellation and stars as guide of worldly and personal affairs....
