Estradas, party, unperturbed by fair poll law ruling

Frontrunners slam celebs wipeout

Survey frontrunners shouldn’t have been concerned over the recent ruling of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) directing celebrity endorsers and media personalities of political candidates to make their choice of either resigning or taking a leave of absence from their showbiz jobs or sticking to their shows but not taking on endorsement jobs from politicians.

The Supreme Court has directed the military to produce the 43 health workers taken into custody over the weekend at Camp Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal province after the high tribunal granted a petition for habeas corpus filed on their behalf.

The SC ordered the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to present the so-called “Morong 43” during a hearing at the Court of Appeals today.... MORE

The fiscal issue is developing as the meat of the presidential campaigns with tax collections becoming a riddle among the candidates for the highest post of the land.

Courtesy of Gloria, the yearly budget is now poised as a Gordian knot to each presidential candidate who can make of break their administration.

Liberal Party’s Noynoy Aquino had said his piece about it, promising, as would any low life politician, that no new taxes will be imposed even as the government faces a multi-year fiscal crisis spawned by Gloria.

Manny Villar of the Nacionalista Party, gave a pragmatic assessment of the situation, saying that.... MORE

What’s good for business is not necessarily good for the Filipino people — majority of whom belong to the impoverished class.

Thus, when Noynoy Aquino delivered a speech before the elite Makati businessmen, who like to portray themselves as politically influential — which is doubted — he, the politician that is fed political advice by politicians, pledged that under his presidency, there will be no new taxes levied.
That, as business knew, was an impossibility, given the huge deficit incurrred, and the mounting interests in the country’s debt. That pledge, everyone knows, would be broken almost immediately — should Noynoy win the presidency, which should show up his hypocrisy and his penchant for breaking promises made — just as the pledges made by his late mother were also broken — almost immediately, upon ascending to power and position.....
