The spin doctors, probably the same one hired by the previous administration, are back in business in Malacaang and a barrage of the absurd, if not comical, photos of the President is back in fashion.

The Palace apparently believes that countering the Noynoying craze that had spread worldwide and may even rival the takeover protest movement in popularity soon, can be done through saturating media with stage-managed photos, or drawing in photographer jargon, of Noynoying Noynoy hard at work.

What comes off is a parody of the Noynoy presidency. In one of the more viral photographs, viral not because it convinced anybody but because it was a pathetic hard sell, showed Noynoy almost bent double carrying what appeared to be folders before two Palace staff members who looked perplexed.

Noynoy was even smiling and appeared not used to carrying such a huge stack of papers. The snapshot was unbelievable since Noynoy had aides who are specifically around to give the President a hand for such a back breaking endeavor..... MORE

‘Don’t attack Iran!’ Anti-war protests hit UK and Israel

UK activists from the ‘Stop the War Coalition’ have held a day of action to speak out against war with Iran. Protesters took to the streets of 15 major British cities. In Israel, hundreds marched in Tel Aviv protesting the war.

The coalition’s unit in Nottingham declares on its website, that the United States has always been “tempted to use its overwhelming military strength” to try to make up for its relative economic decline, exacerbated by the current crisis.

“This means that the target is shifting to Iran and Syria. There are continual calls for intervention in Syria, and the war of words with Iran continually threatens to boil over into a war of aircraft carriers and bombs in the Straits of Hormuz,” the activists say..... MORE

Malacaang is said to be making preparations to honor the members of the Bureau of Fire Protections Caloocan City unit on account of their impending inclusion into the world-famed Guinness Book of World Records.

They are being cited by Guinness for chalking up the dubious distinction of taking the longest time ever in putting out a single blaze.

This is according to a text message thats been going around.

Anyway, if this were true, these turkeys in the Caloocan BFP are entirely deserving of the award, after all it took them all of 80 hours to put out the fire that gutted the huge Ever Gotesco Grand Central Mall in Caloocan City..... MORE

There is a recently composed dictionary having a list of novel vocabulary — with possibility annoying yet entertaining newly coined words.

This is courtesy of young people whose ingenuity is beyond limitation and whose perception is beyond question. While these young men and women are the usual frontrunners of different advocacies according to the needs and signs of the times, lately however they caught the attention of a good number of people for their titillating expression used in a public demonstration of their common lamentation..... False Asia — The unkindest survey result on CJ

NO NONSENSE
Jacinto ‘Jing’ Paras
03/25/2012
Pulse Asia often referred by many as False Asia due to its biased survey results has done it again, this time against Chief Justice (CJ) Renato Corona. In its latest survey, False Asia made it appear that 47 percent of the Filipino population found the CJ guilty as charged in the impeachment case pending at the Senate impeachment court.

It makes me wonder what sort of questions asked of the sample 1,200 persons and how the sample was chosen. It appears that the questions asked may have been loaded such that the result was calculated to make CJ looked guilty in the eyes of the people despite the fact that the trial is not even half-way through. How could then any person being asked if CJ is guilty can intelligently answer the question when the CJ’s defense panel has barely started presenting its witnesses and evidences and has not yet been given the chance to fully rebut or controvert the prosecution’s allegations. This is so unkind to reveal this survey result while the trial is still ongoing..... MORE

GOV’T FAILED TO ANTICIPATE PROBLEM — SOLONS

Senate to probe worsening Mindanao power supply woes

03/25/2012
The Senate has firmed up plans to hold an exhaustive inquiry into the Mindanao power situation even as the Palace and the Department of Energy (DoE) the other day indicated that measures are already in place to avert a supply crisis in the region.

Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III said he would seek a Senate inquiry to prevent what Mindanao businesses said were the possibility of brownouts of up to eight hours a day in the main island.

“The situation has worsened, particularly with the onset of summer. Mindanao now faces the grim prospect of longer outages of up to eight hours a day. Business is suffering badly and the residents are becoming impatient over the government’s slow response,” he said.... MORE

Bishop urges SC to start transfer of HLI titles to tillers

03/25/2012
Saying “time is of the essence,” an official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) appealed to the Supreme Court to order the immediate transfer of land titles of the Hacienda Luisita Inc. (HLI) to farm workers based on its recent decision favoring land distribution in the huge estate owned by relatives of President Aquino.

Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo said the SC must issue the order as an initial step leading to the issuance of the Certificate of Land Ownership Awards to the farmers.

“As the situation of poverty and hunger in the hacienda increases, the legal installation of the farmers will bring great relief to their long-suffering families,” Pabillo said..... MORE

Lawyers’ group praises [Enrile]

03/25/2012
A group of lawyers has expressed satisfaction over the manner in which Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile is presiding over Chief Justice Renato Corona’s impeachment trial, believing the veteran lawmaker is demonstrating determination to promote fairness and due process in the hearings.

“From our observation, it seems the rule of law is always upheld during the trial — it’s properly articulated and protected,” former Ambassador Rey Parungao of the group Advocates for the Rule of Law yesterday told a news forum.

He cited such observation as the group lauded Enrile for “his steadfast and unwavering stand to defend the time-honored principles of fairness and equity and of due process.”.... MORE

Tobacco use in fish culture, paper-making to sustain farmers

03/25/2012
Two new researches regarding tobacco will help the tobacco farmers sustain their livelihood even if there were an all-out campaign against cigarette smoking and would also support the call to sustain tobacco as the main cash crop of the farmers, particularly in Northern Luzon after the rice season.

These research studies pushed the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the NTA to initiate an increase in the demand of the tobacco.

The first study found that tobacco dusts were efficient snail-killing molluscicide for use in fishponds, and eventually as fertilizer for the growth of lablab or algae for nutritious food on fishes..... MORE

Lawmaker urges public utility drivers to reciprocate by ensuring passengers’ safety

03/25/2012
In the wake of the continued rise in fuel prices, House committee on good government and public accountability chairman and Iloilo Rep. Jerry Treñas yesterday lauded the efforts of the national government to mitigate the plight of some 100,000 public utility drivers through direct subsidy and tax discounts for spare parts but at the same time urged them to reciprocate by ensuring the safety of their passengers.

Apart from reckless driving, various forms of mechanical breakdowns due to improper vehicle maintenance are among the leading causes of vehicular accidents, many of which have claimed the lives of many people, Treñas noted.

“Proper vehicle maintenance should be a prerequisite for securing a franchise to operate a public transport system. Public transport operators have the utmost obligation to protect the safety of their passengers,” Treñas said..... MORE

Noy hit for not acting on calls for higher wage, low tuition

By Charlie V. Manalo 03/25/2012

Kabataan Rep. Raymond \"Mong\" Palatino yesterday warned that the government\'s inaction on the demand for higher wage and to stop price and tuition hikes would further push more Filipino students to drop out of school.

According to Palatino, Transportation and the prices of basic commodities and services increased due to hikes in the prices of oil products. For the coming academic year (AY), the Commission on Higher Education said more than 300 private colleges and universities will raise tuition. To make the situation worse, the solon said President Aquino chose to ignore any move that will increase workers\' wages and salaries.

\"Currently, millions of the youth are denied of their right to education due to deepening poverty and rising education costs. As multiple blows of price hikes would add more burden to the already beleaguered family budget, the education of the youth will be left behind,\" Palatino said..... MORE
