Let the cyclical in history put the Arroyos in a repeat and the pedagogical teach them a lesson; but more importantly, let history’s vindictiveness take its revenge on them. History breathes and its dynamics requires a payback similar to mother- nature’s wrath when it is abused and violated. There is indeed a God of history.

To those who claim that the Arroyo couple suffered “cruelty and not only injustice” at the humiliating scenarios at the NAIA Immigration counter… well, what could be more humiliating than the experience of President Joseph Estrada, who was speedily arrested at his Polk residence, haled to Camp Crame, fingerprinted and photographed with the docket number like an ordinary street criminal, charged at the Sandiganbayan, jailed in Crame then incarcerated in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Yet he was a legitimately elected and sitting president!

Does the priest-lawyer-constitutionalist know the meaning of cruelty? He should have reviewed the video tapes of how the “Edsa three” rallyists — the poor, unwashed and toothless — followers of President Estrada were beaten to the pulp or even murdered in the streets of Mendiola that fatal evening of May 10 years ago by the Arroyo mob police, when their only purpose was to voice out their humble sentiments of being robbed of their votes..... The quest of Noynoy which is to put former President Gloria Arroyo behind bars before the end of the year is nearing satisfaction and everything is being done by riding roughshod over the Supreme Court (SC) and the tenets of legality.

The legal maneuvers taken to put into effect Noynoy’s obsession smacked of manipulations of the system that was exactly what Gloria had been accused of employing to commit the abuses now being leveled against her.

The nation has been a witness in a blow by blow rendering possible through modern media of the executive branch virtually ignoring the co-equal judiciary and then subjecting the Supreme Court’s authority to a blitzkrieg that is usually found in a John Grisham novel or its movie adaptation..... It was all deliberately done to circumvent the temporary restraining order (TRO) the high court had issued against the watch list order (WLO) of the Injustice Secretary and her vindictive patron, Nonoy.

And in their evil plan to ensure that the Supreme Court’s order would not be obeyed, Noynoy destroyed the independence of yet another constitutional office known as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and no doubt, another judge from the Pasay City Regional Trial Court.

The Palace knew that the high court would deny their motion for reconsideration and it also knew that once the Supreme Court (SC) denies its MR, the Arroyo couple would be free to travel to their destination..... MORE

‘Occupy similar to ‘60s Civil Rights movement’

As Obama’s presidency nears its end, assessments of his reforms are beginning to appear. But editor of The Nation Katrina Vanden Heuvel says that the most significant changes are coming not from the man on top, but from movements at the bottom.

“One man, one woman, even a president cannot change the political system in one, two, three years,” she said. “Our system is so complicated and corrupted by money, by establishment power, that it takes movements from below allied with politicians of conviction inside.”

Katrina Vanden Heuvel compares the Occupy to other great transformational movements, like the Labor movement, the Environmental movement, and the Civil Rights movement in the ’60s..... MORE

CIA keeps manuscript away from its own author

CIA keeps manuscript away from its own author

Before he began his 25 years of field work as an intelligence officer in the US military, Lt Col Anthony Shaffer probably didn’t think he’d be writing a tell-all book decades later.

He probably didn’t think he’d have to take the CIA to court, either.

But now as Shaffer tries to take the Pentagon and CIA to court over censorship issues involving his memoir, Operation Dark Heart, the officer finds himself in limbo as the government won’t hand back the manuscript he wrote himself — leaving him with nothing to base his case on.

Shaffer’s problems with his book began years ago. He submitted it to the US Army for review in 2003 and it took seven years for the memoir to finally hit the shelves of stores. The government granted him an okay to get Dark Heart published following a series of reactions, but revoked their permission in order to make a few more changes. By that point, however, 10,000 copies had already been printed and the Pentagon had to purchase every copy and destroy them to protect what they said was classified information. A few copies survived the snatch though, and a more heavily edited edition was eventually released..... MORE

The massacre watch By LUIS V. TEODORO

 The massacre watch

Vantage Point | BusinessWorld

When the Ampatuan Town Massacre of Nov. 23, 2009, occurred and its brutal details were known, it provoked attempts at self-examination among many media advocacy and journalists’ groups, and even in some of the newspapers and broadcast networks that for years had been ignoring the killing of journalists.

Among the questions these groups and some communication academics asked then, and have since been asking, is whether the Massacre has imposed on the media such supposedly additional responsibilities as providing more information than the daily news agenda makes available, and analysis and interpretation beyond the usual front-page, op-ed and evening news menu of politics and scandal.

The Massacre has since become an international symbol of the perils journalists face in failing and failed states (international media watch and press freedom groups have declared Nov. 23, 2011, the International Day to End Impunity). It was not only election-related. It was also the worst attack in Philippine history on the press as a necessary institution of democracy..... MORE

\"The Philippines is a democratic and republican State. Sovereignty resides in the people and all government authority emanates from them.” (Phil. Constitution, Article II, Section 1)
On the ground version: “The Philippines is an autocratic and dynastic State. Sovereignty resides in the rich and powerful, and all governing authority originates from them.”

This is appalling but true, nauseating but real, disgusting but actual. Those who honestly and sincerely believe say and/or claim otherwise are either: Deaf, dumb, blind. Credulous, foolish, ridiculous. Or the rich and powerful government authorities themselves.

No deal as US, China face off on Spratlys’ woes

BALI – US President Barack Obama and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao stood pat on their positions at the East Asia Summit (EAS) yesterday over the South China Sea territorial disputes and expectedly failed to forge any compromise on how to resolve the long-standing conflicts, leaving the unsettling issue hanging and dividing their smaller Southeast Asian counterparts.

While the summit agenda also included food security and disaster management, maritime security, topped by the territorial row involving China, the Philippines and four other Asian nations hijacked the limelight of the annual gathering, which Obama and Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev attended for the first time, making the forum just one of a few where the Chinese and American leaders could meet face-to-face with other heads of state to confront international concerns.

During the hour-long meeting, held at the picturesque Bali International Convention Center, Obama stated that the disputes must be peacefully settled in a multilateral forum in accordance with international law, echoing the same position long-held by the Philippines..... MORE

Court moves on Gloria case illegal – Philconsa

By Charlie V. Manalo 11/20/2011

Pampanga Rep. Gloria Arroyo’s lawyers charge that the electoral sabotage case filed against the former president and several others as having been railroaded has been validated by a Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa) member.

Lawyer Mariano Tajano yesterday said that the entire court proceedings that took place Friday, from the raffling of the case to the issuance of the warrant of arrest, are all illegal.

At the weekly Kapihan sa Annabel’s, Tajano, disclosed that the Executive Judge of the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC), along with RTC Branch 112 Judge Jesus Mupas to whom the case was raffled, erred when this Arroyo case was immediately submitted for raffling, with the judge issuing a warrant of arrest four hours later..... 4 Pinay activists face deportation for Bali Asean summit protest

11/20/2011
Four Filipina activists were detained by Bali police and are facing possible deportation for participating in a protest against the Asean Summit attended by the world’s leaders, including US President Barack Obama, in Indonesia.

According to the Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC), the four Filipinas — Lidy Nacpil, Malou Tabios, Rhoda Viajar and Manjette Lopez – and three Indonesians were arrested after they participated in a rally that passed through several foreign consulate offices in Bali, including those of the US and Japan last Friday.

Although released earlier yesterday, the four activists — three from the regional group Jubilee South Asia Pacific Movement on Debt and Development (JS-APMDD) and one from the FDC, are facing possible criminal charges or are in danger of being deported..... MORE

Palace urged to disclaim DND remark on revolutionary gov’t

By Charlie V. Manalo 11/20/2011

A militant solon yesterday dared Malacañang to issue a categorical statement disclaiming and dissociating itself from the statement made by the spokesman for the Department of Defense (DND) who the other day said a revolutionary government remained an option for President Aquino to restore order in the country.

In a statement, Act — Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio said the statement made by DND spokesman Zosimo Paredes reveals the dangerous, undemocratic tendencies within the DND establishment, which has historically been the main instrument responsible for the implementation of dictatorial rule.

“Malacañang should publicly disclaim and dissociate itself from the unfortunate statement made by DND spokesperson Zosimo Paredes, who was recently quoted as saying that ‘when national security is threatened or at stake, a revolutionary government is an option for the President under the Constitution,’” Tinio said..... 5 p.m. – Malaysia vs Indonesia (for third)
7 p.m. – Phils. vs Thailand (for gold)

JAKARTA — Determined yet cautious, the Philippines shoots for the title Sunday evening against dangerous Thailand in men’s basketball finals in the 26th Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) here.

This could be the gold medal that would soothe Filipino egos as the rest of the Philippine team failed miserably in all fronts and fell way, way below officials’ projection of at least 70 gold medals and a top three finish.

The Philippines is wallowing at sixth place behind eventual overall champion Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, which share more than 300 golds among themselves.
But this is the gold that most Filipinos care about..... MORE
