SC asked to reconsider acquittal of Webb group

NOTWITHSTANDING the rule on double jeopardy, Lauro Vizconde on Wednesday asked the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision acquitting Hubert Webb and other accused in the Vizconde massacre case.

In an 84-page motion for reconsideration, Vizconde, who was accompanied by Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) chief Persida Rueda-Acosta, urged the High Court to reconsider its decision finding Webb, Peter Estrada, Hospicio Fernandez, Michael Gatchalian,  Antonio Lejano 2nd and Miguel Rodriguez not guilty in the murders of his wife Estrelita and daughters Carmela and Jennifer in 1991.

Filing a motion for reconsideration of a decision by the Supreme Court raises the issue of violation of the double-jeopardy rule, which provides that an accused cannot be tried again for the same offense if he had been acquitted of it..... MORE

THE Philippine central bank on Wednesday kept its key policy rates on hold for the 13th time amid manageable price trends and favorable economic conditions, but raised its inflation forecast for this year and the next two years.

At its last meeting for 2010, the policy-making Monetary Board decided to maintain the BSP’s key policy interest rates at 4 percent for the overnight borrowing or reverse repurchase (RRP) rate, and 6 percent for the overnight lending or repurchase (RP) rate..... MORE

MANILA, Philippines (PNA) - Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz on Wednesday signed an administrative order adopting a code of conduct for all Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) officials and employees, effectively ending the year 2010 and her first six months in office with what she described as an “inward-looking strategy to promote transparency and excellent public service and to arm and position everyone in the DOLE in the battle against all forms of graft and corruption”.

“Today, on the eve of the commemoration of the 114th anniversary of the martyrdom of the national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, the DOLE joins the Filipino nation in a pledge to ensure good and efficient governance, in pursuit of President Benigno S.
