DoH fears 'cracker injuries may breach 900 by New Year

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DoH) is projecting the number of fireworks-related injuries to rise to at least 900 between Wednesday and New Year’s Day based on statistics which showed 173 people injured from December 21 until Tuesday afternoon.

Citing DoH surveillance records, health officials said they are worried over the escalating number of victims – a huge number of them children below 10 years old or 43 percent of the total number of firecracker victims..... MORE

MANILA, Philippines — Ismael Aviso, aka “Ka Maeng” who is a Filipino electric car inventor, spent Christmas twiddling his thumbs inside his home in Navotas City.

For seven years now, Aviso been telling the government that he has the knowhow to create a car “engine” that uses electricity instead of petroleum. About a month ago, he announced that he has completed his technology and produced a crude but working test vehicle that has been sitting in his nearby shop.... MORE

Mutineers must admit guilt for amnesty grant

SEN. Antonio Trillanes 4th and other rebel soldiers and policemen involved in three attempts to topple the previous administration should first admit their guilt before they can qualify for an amnesty program approved by Congress, according to implementing rules and regulations (IRR) crafted by Malacañang and the Department of National Defense (DND).

The Defense department spokesman, Director Eduardo Batac, on Tuesday disclosed that the IRR would be coming out anytime this week in two major newspapers, after which the department would start entertaining applicants..... MORE

NBI agents on Tuesday arrested 24 members of a Chinese telecommunications, Internet and credit card syndicate that has collected P6 billion in just six months of operations in the Philippines following simultaneous raids on eight suspected safe houses in Metro Manila, officials said.
