Church leaders figured prominently in that shameful event in 2001 when a democratically elected President Joseph Estrada, was unconstitutionally removed and Gloria, the most reviled president ever, was installed.

As election day nears, more and more politicians, as well as ordinary citizens, have been expressing fears of a failure of elections, massive or otherwise, as well as fears of automated cheating, given that the officials of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) have been so cavalier in dismissing the many real problems facing automated polls, including the absence of anti-fraud safeguards.

Different scenarios are possible, given the state of calamitous affairs of the Comelec and its partner, Smartmatic-TIM, as well as the usual civil society’s plot for its anointed to take the presidency — democratically elected or not.

And there is of course, the fears already expressed by the general citizenry on the holdover plans of Gloria Arroyo and her military and police generals, as a failure of the automated polls looms.... MORE
