President Arroyo yesterday named Army chief Lt. Gen. Delfin Bangit, who was reportedly part of the military operations taking orders to cheat for her victory from her and former Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner Virgilio “Garci” Garcillano and one of her known military generals personally loyal to her and her family, as incoming chief of the 130,000-strong Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), despite public apprehensions on his taking over the top military post during the election period.

Ousted Bulacan Gov. Mendoza also asked the high tribunal to issue a temporaryretraining order or a status quo and stop the Comelec fro implementing its order declaring Roberto Pagdanganan as the winner in the May 2007 Bulacan gubernatorial race, to... MORE

The bishops recently challenged Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral to a debate on the issue of condoms as a means of preventing AIDS from spreading, apart from the issue of contraceptives encouraging sexual promiscuity.

The bishops claimed that latex condoms — at least 30 percent of them — have been found to be “porous,” according to surveys on which they rely to buttress their arguments against the use of contraceptives.

But by using this “porous condoms” argument, the bishops already lose the argument — at least on the issue... MORE

The political in-thing today for candidates is to project themselves as the “opposition candidate.”
The first question then is, opposition to whom and to what? Gloria Arroyo and her government, along with her policies?

But are they?

Hardly that, since these same candidates who claim to be opposition candidates — whether presidential or senatorial — were, from 2000 to July 2005, allies and defenders of Gloria Arroyo.

Not once, in all that time they were in bed with Gloria and her administration,... MORE
