The voters list for the May 10 polls is padded by at least five million.

Retired Lingayen Archbishop Oscar Cruz bared this after the poll watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) reported that there are 40,000 flying voters on the official list of Davao City and Davao del Sur.

A concerned Speaker Prospero Nograles, alarmed by the large number of double, multiple and dead registrants included in the final voting list, while excluding some 13,000 voters who he says are his supporters, yesterday told the Tribune in a telephone interview that he has already moved to have a congressional panel to hold hearings and investigate this matter.... A former Cabinet official of the late President Ferdinand Marcos telling all in a proceeding in Congress on controversies involving the Hacienda Luisita may deal the death blow to Liberal Party (LP) bet Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s presidential aspirations, according to Cavite Rep. Crispin “Boying” Remulla.

Agrarian Reform Minister Conrado Estrella Sr. said over the weekend that he is willing to reveal atrocities done to farmers in Hacienda Luisita, including the maneuverings done by the family of presi-dential candidate Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to escape land distribution.

Noynoy can kiss his presidential bid goodbye once Estrella tells all on what he knows about the “blood-soaked history” of Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac, Remulla said.... MORE

Something funny is going on in the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Instead of getting alarmed at the fact that the Philippine Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) had discovered, and backed by documents too, a number of flying voters amounting to some 40,000, composed of the double, multiple and deceased voters in the Davao region, the Comelec, through Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal, dismissed this, saying that which the PPCRV had, by way of the voters’ list, was not the final list and that this has been cleansed already.... Only five Senate seats up for grabs

ZOOMING IN

The last Commission on Elections (Comelec) list of senatorial candidates that I saw had 59 names in it. With only 12 Senate seats up for grabs, the candidacies of 47 of the listed candidates will be unsuccessful. Who will end up in the 12-candidate winning circle will depend upon a trio of factors.

The first of these factors, clearly, is reelectionist status. A reelectionist has by far the best chance of winning an election among candidates. A reelectionist is always in the public eye and almost everything that he does or says is reported by the media. Thus, during the course of the campaign and — more important — on election day a reelectionist is very much in the consciousness of most voters.... MORE
