Bangit, service chiefs take up junta issue

Even as Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Delfin Bangit said he would not call Liberal Party presidential candidate Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino to explain his clandestine meetings with active military officers, it appears that the AFP chief of staff is bothered about the probability of yet another planned civilian-military coup that may end up in a revolutionary or junta type government, not unlike Edsa 1986.
Bangit yesterday gathered the military top brass in a command conference at Camp Aguinaldo amid reports of a possible junta and persistent reports of active officers meeting secretly with a presidential candidate.
AFP spokesman Lt. Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr. said the command conference tackled the military’s ongoing preparations for the upcoming May 10 presidential elections and other prevailing issues, including the possibility of a group declaring a junta which was raised by Pastor Boy Saycon of the Council of Philippine Affairs (Copa), as well as the secret meetings held between Aquino and several officers from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).
